The body can produce Vitamin K especially in the colon area where gut bacteria produce the vitamin; however,  it can only be produced in small amounts. Excellent food sources include natto beans. Dairy, spinach, eggs, yogurts and green leafy vegetables.  Vitamin K2 is primarily used within the body to promote the clotting ability of the blood.

One of its most important functions is to regulate calcium deposition. In other words,  it promotes the calcification of bones and prevents the calcification of blood vessels and kidneys.

In adults aged 20 and older, the average daily vitamin K intake from foods is 122 mcg for women and 138 mcg for men. When both foods and supplements are considered, the average daily vitamin K intake increases to 164 mcg for women and 182 mcg for men.

The vitamin is made up of nine different forms, the most beneficial of which are MK4, MK7 and MK9.  The numbers after the MK represent the life span of the particular form as most of them have shorter life spans. This product is in MK9 form.
